Gallery: 14 Last Minute Gifts for the Green Procrastinator

MAKE THEM A SLIDESHOW

We can't think of anyone who isn't touched by slideshows (especially ones about their own lives), and they can be prepped in a few hours. Just grab some photos of your giftee (bonus points if you're in them too) and upload them to a free service like Animoto or Smilebox for a personalized gift that won't seen last minute in the least.

STUFF THEY LOVE BOX

It’s happened again – you have just a few hours left until your holiday gift exchange and you’re utterly present-less. Luckily, your local supermarket, drugstore or whatever else is still open can actually be a treasure trove of practical gifts that you can make into a festive “Stuff You Love” Bundle. Just load up on your giftee’s favorite things – snacks, craft beer, even that lotion they love but constantly run out of – and place them all in a nice box or basket. Added bonus? You know they’ll actually use everything in there as opposed to that Shake Weight you gave the last year.

RECIPE IN A JAR

You’ve probably admired fancy jars filled with ingredients like this at your local fine foods shop but making them yourself is a snap – and can be done at the last minute too. Check out our tutorial to see how here.

COOK THEM A PANCAKE FEAST

The gift of a pancake feast on Christmas Day is pretty obviously a last-minute gift but honestly, who cares when pancakes are involved?! All will be forgiven once the syrup is poured, or you can just easily chose to make it seem like you had this special feast planned out all along.

BAG OF BOOZE

If you’re looking for a last minute gift that is pretty foolproof, we highly recommend a bag of booze. An Inhabitant brought this to our holiday White Elephant party last year and it was THE gift everyone wanted – just make sure that the recipient isn’t a teetotaler!

ORGANIZE THEIR CLOSET

What do you get for the girl (or guy) who has everything? How about adding some order and organization to all of those things? Most people have trouble keeping track of their wardrobes, especially around the holidays so an offer to sort and organize their shoes, dresses or coats is a gift that they’ll appreciate more than more stuff to add to the pile.

OVERNIGHT PICKLES

Homemade pickles may seem like a real epicurean treat but you can whip up your own in a jiffy as a last minute gift and they’ll never be the wiser. Just use our shortcut recipe.

HELP THEM WITH A HOME IMPROVEMENT TASK

Flip your procrastination into something that your giftee will appreciate way more than some weird tchotchke you picked up at a big box shop by making your giftee a card offering your services with a home improvement project.

MONTHLY WINE CLUB

If you’re looking for a last minute gift that really doesn’t seem like it, a subscription to a monthly wine club is the perfect thing. They’ll think it’s perfectly normal when their first shipment of delicious wine comes a month after the holiday. Phew!

MAKE THEM A SLIDESHOW

We can’t think of anyone who isn’t touched by slideshows (especially ones about their own lives), and they can be prepped in a few hours. Just grab some photos of your giftee (bonus points if you’re in them too) and upload them to a free service like Animoto or Smilebox for a personalized gift that won’t seen last minute in the least.

HOMEMADE PESTO

Pesto is one of those delightfully fragrant and flavorful condiments that seems uber fancy but can actually be made quite easily with ingredients that you can find at your local market. Use our simple tutorial to whip up a batch of your own – even on the night before your gift-giving session.

DIY LIP BALM

Give your friends and family the gift of smooth moisturized lips in a way that seems a lot more meaningful than just buying them tubes of Chapstick. Homemade lip balm is such a wonderful treat and gift, and it’s easy to whip up. Just check out our easily DIY tutorial.

SHARE A SECRET RECIPE

If you know someone who’d kill for your latke recipe or maim for the secret ingredient that makes your pierogies extra special, share it with them why not this holiday as a gift? To make it seem less last minute, you can write it neatly on an index card or even create a recipe notebook for them and start them off with a few of your own specialties and leave the rest to them.

REGIFT THAT THEY’LL ACTUALLY LIKE

We’re not sure when re-gifting became so taboo but back in the day, it was a completely common practice that wasn’t considered tacky at all. See some of our tips on how to regift properly here.

COUPON BOOK OF CHORES

The “coupon book of chores” as a last minute gift is nothing new, but the reason it’s remained popular is that it works!
