Some of our favorites include the Drassanes Station in Barcelona, which was given a swanky facelift by ON-A Architects and the incredible Stocholm Tunnelbana in Sweden. The latter used the bedrock as a unique medium for public art [2], instead of covering up, and features a total of 140 artists throughout their network of 100 stations.

Spain’s Nuevos Ministerios features giant eyes that appear to peer down on would-be transgressors, somewhat different than the red eyes of rats that emerge from beneath the streets of Manhattan [3], while Munich’s U-Bahn just makes you want to do a happy rainbow dance. This is what sustainability is all about: creating positive solutions that will be good for the long haul.
