Located in the trendy Neukölln ^[6] area of Berlin, Hüttenpalast is a hotel for people who enjoy camping. Opened last year by locals Silke Lorenzen and Sarah Vollmer, this unusual accommodation is located inside the wide open space of a 1910 vacuum cleaner factory and features neat rooms within revamped caravans and wooden huts.

Events organizer Silke Lorenzen and designer Sarah Vollmer wanted to create a fun, innovative and flexible accommodation space in their area of Neukölln. Aiming to preserve the inner beauty and vastness of the building, they decided to build a few shelters and re-appropriate some caravans — bought on Ebay. There is also a two-floor structure containing a double room on the top and another inside, made from original wooden paneling ^[8] found on site.

With names such as “Heartbreaker” or “The Little Sister,” each room has been designed by a different artist and have its own unique style. Whether you are looking for a romantic atmosphere or a Scandinavian space for rest, Hüttenpalast has it all. Vintage camping furniture and mixed tables and chairs bought at the city’s Flohmärkte ^[9] -— Flea Markets — made common areas to have breakfast, meet other travelers or just relax with the Berlin Travel Guide ^[10].

Hüttenpalast has also an outdoors cafe, with Wi-Fi and lots of growing herbs and plants, used on the extended homemade vegetarian menu. Reused wooden crates, plastic kitchen containers and even a vintage bathtub are used as containers for plant. This cool caravan ^[11] hotel has plenty of bikes for rent — including a tandem! — providing guests with the favorite sustainable transport to move around the German capital.
