With The Design Can’s clever new Self-Destructo Candle, you can literally burn your candle at both ends. The Self-Destructo is a traditional paraffin pillar candle with an embedded LED light. If you replace the battery occasionally, the LED “candle” will last forever. However, if you ever get tired of it - you don’t need to worry about sending yet another gadget to landfill. Instead, just flip the candle over, cut the wick, light it, and watch it slowly melt away. Self-destruction is the future of eco-design!

0_0 Sorry but I need some clarification here.

So the lamp actually burns away into nothing? No harm done and all? Or does all the wax just melt off the thing?

The candle will burn down to the battary and LED. Bad news in my opinion: lithium batteries have extremely flammable contents (let’s hope they use alkaline) and LEDs are toxic even though the amount of material is small.

A battery powered light is just not environmentally friendly.

Now I’ve seen fake candles for use in bars that use a rechargeable battery…

What happens to the LED and the battery? There must be some kind of framework to hold them in place too. In my experience most candles don’t burn very completely.

You can take out the LED w/ the battery in it before burning. It is not meant to burn with the LED still in it.

To me this is a good idea,and its uniqueness overrides the question of wether or not it is eco-friendly. I have one and I enjoy at night!

This looks just like the Philips Imageo candles, only those ones are always lit, the base contains an RGB leds which is faded through an aray of colours, the candles burns down to the part containing the led and battery. LED and battery are encased in a plastic bulb, so the hot was doesn’t get near them, the plastic buld opens up at the bottom to allow you to replace or recover the 9V battery block as well as the electronics. http://www.decoratieveverlichting.nl/DetailPlaatje.aspx?ArtikelNummer=REALCANDLELED
