Tomorrow is a big day for Tesla [1], with expectations high for the first deliveries [2] of the all-new Tesla Model S sedan. We’ve now learned that the EPA [3] has officially rated the Tesla Model S electric sedan at 89 MPGe with a range of 265 miles. Tesla originally estimated that the top version of the Tesla Model S would have a range of 300 miles with the 85 kWh battery pack.

Even with a range of 265 miles the Tesla Model S [4] has the longest driving range of any EV currently on the market. Although its EPA 89 MPGe rating is below that of other vehicles such as Nissan Leaf [5] and Ford Focus Electric [6], the 350 horsepower electric motor in the Tesla Model S [7] leaves those other models in the dust with a 0-60 mph time of 5.6 seconds.

The Tesla Model S has a starting price at $49,900 after the available $7,500 federal tax credit. The EPA [3] has yet to release the ratings for the 40 kWh and 60 kWh versions of the Model S.

Tesla [1] is planning a big kickoff event tomorrow at its plant in Fremont, California where the first deliveries will be broadcast via the internet.
