Tomorrow is a big day for Tesla , with expectations high for the first deliveries of the all-new Tesla Model S sedan. We’ve now learned that the EPA has officially rated the Tesla Model S electric sedan at 89 MPGe with a range of 265 miles. Tesla originally estimated that the top version of the Tesla Model S would have a range of 300 miles with the 85 kWh battery pack.
Even with a range of 265 miles the Tesla Model S has the longest driving range of any EV currently on the market. Although its EPA 89 MPGe rating is below that of other vehicles such as Nissan Leaf and Ford Focus Electric , the 350 horsepower electric motor in the Tesla Model S leaves those other models in the dust with a 0-60 mph time of 5.6 seconds.
The Tesla Model S has a starting price at $49,900 after the available $7,500 federal tax credit. The EPA has yet to release the ratings for the 40 kWh and 60 kWh versions of the Model S.
Tesla is planning a big kickoff event tomorrow at its plant in Fremont, California where the first deliveries will be broadcast via the internet.
