This fall Ford [1] is releasing an all-new 2013 Ford Fusion [2] – and the vehicle was just rated by the EPA [3] as the most fuel-efficient midsize sedan in America with fuel economy scores of 47 mpg city, 47 mpg highway and 47 mpg combined. The EPA’s rating of 47 mpg means that the new Fusion Hybrid is more fuel-efficient than its closest competitor, the Toyota Camry Hybrid [4], by 8 mpg highway and 4 mpg city.

The 2013 Ford Fusion will be offered with a choice of five different engines: three four-cylinder engines and two hybrids. “The new Fusion is part of our plan to offer vehicles with the very best quality, fuel efficiency, safety, smart design and value,” says Alan Mulally, Ford [1] president and CEO. “We are absolutely committed to class-leading fuel efficiency as a reason to buy Ford vehicles, with customers able to choose the fuel-efficient [5] powertrain that best fits their lifestyle.”

In addition to the EPA [3] rating for the Fusion Hybrid, Ford has also announced that the most fuel-efficient non-hybrid model will be the Fusion equipped with the 1.6L EcoBoost engine, which gets up to 37 mpg on the highway. If you want an even more fuel-efficient Fusion, Ford is also releasing the Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid [6] that is projected to get over 100 MPGe (miles-per-gallon equivalent). In addition the Fusion is available with Ford’s patented Auto Start-Stop system, which automatically shuts off the engine at idle to help save customers even more fuel in stop-and-go city driving.

“Ford is bringing power of choice to midsize sedan buyers,” says Mark Fields, president of The Americas. “More than 2 million customers this year will purchase midsize cars. Our new Fusion [7] delivers the fuel savings people truly want and value, with technologies that cost two to three times the price on some German sedans.”
