The 2013 Honda Fit EV [1] has just been given the EPA’s [2] highest fuel-efficiency rating ever – 118 MPGe! The Honda Fit EV’s 20-kWh lithium-ion battery gives the electric Fit a range of 82 miles, which means that the Fit EV surpasses the EPA efficiency and range ratings of the Ford Focus Electric [3] (105 MPGe, 76-mile range) and the Nissan Leaf [4] (99 MPGe, 73-mile range). Steve Center, vice president of the American Honda Environmental Business Development Office said that “the 2013 Fit EV will be an absolute kick to drive” – which is “just as important as the industry-leading fuel-efficiency and fast recharging time.”

The 2013 Honda Fit EV features a three-mode electric drive system and is powered by a 123 horsepower coaxial electric motor [5] with 189 lb-ft. of torque. Although the EPA estimates that the Honda Fit EV has a combined range of 82 miles, Honda estimates that it has a total range of 123 miles on a single charge. The Fit EV can also be recharged in less than three hours using a 240-volt outlet. The 2013 Fit EV’s pricing starts at $36,625 before any government incentives, with an estimated lease priced at $389 a month. Honda [6] has announced plans to begin leasing the Honda Fit EV to customers in select California and Oregon markets during the summer of 2012, followed by an East Coast rollout in 2013.

“The Fit EV [7] is the next critical step in Honda’s [8] portfolio approach to alternative fueled vehicles,” said John Mendel, executive vice president of sales, American Honda Motor Co., Inc. “There is no other automaker on the planet whose spirit is more deeply invested in the effort to realize a cleaner, more energy-efficient and ultimately more sustainable transportation future than Honda.”
