Honda just announced that the 2014 Honda Civic Hybrid is set to go on sale tomorrow nationwide and it’s now more fuel-efficient with a 44/47 mpg EPA rating. That means the new Civic Hybrid is one of the most fuel-efficient compact sedans on the market.

For the 2014 model year the entire Civic lineup received powertrain updates, including the addition of a new continuously variable transmission that improves the Civic’s fuel efficiency. The 2014 Civic Hybrid gets three more miles per gallon on the highway, and it has a 45 mpg combined fuel economy rating, which is identical to the Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid.

The 2014 Civic Hybrid looks identical to the 2013 model on the outside, but it has more standard features like a new display with a 7-inch touchscreen that allows users to pinch, swipe and tap just like a smartphone to access music, contacts, media, vehicle information and navigation features.

The natural gas-powered Civic Natural Gas has also returned for the 2014 model year and is available with leather seats for the first time ever. The 2014 Civic Natural Gas also goes on sale this month and starts at $26,640, while the 2014 Civic Hybrid starts at $24,635.

Is it just the CVT that allowed it to go from 44/44/44 to 44/47/45?
I thought that now all the cylinders or all but 1 cylinder was shut off during braking so more regen can occur instead of engine braking? More so than the 2013- Civic Hybrids? If it was a \”full hybrid\”, the engine could completely disconnect.
