Chinese company Trina Solar will supply 1.1 million 250-watt solar panels for a 250-megawatt (MW) solar farm in Nevada. When the project is completed, it will be one of the biggest solar photovoltaic power plants in the world. The project, located in the desert town of Boulder City about 20 miles from Las Vegas,  is the third expansion of Sempra U.S. Gas & Power’s Copper Mountain Project. When the project is completed in 2015 the total solar capacity will be up to 458 MW.

According to Sempra’s website, the project will create around 300 construction jobs and when online will supply power to about 80,000 homes. The power “will be sold to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power and the City of Burbank under a 20-year contract with the Southern California Public Power Authority.”

Chinese companies such as Trina and the world’s biggest solar manufacturer Yingli Green Energy, which recently won a contract to provide solar panels for a 200 MW power plant outside of San Diego, are increasingly competitive with American manufacturers like First Solar and SunPower.

Westlands Solar Park in California’s Central Valley is the biggest solar construction project taking place in the United States and when completed between 2013-2015 will be the second biggest PV power station in the world at 2,700 MW. Greece is building the biggest solar power plant in the world – Project Helios will generate 10,000 MW with an expected completion date of 2020.

Why? Why wouldn’t U.S. made panels be used? But then, why don’t our troops wear uniforms made in the states? Time to insist on things like components of our energy grid, our troops uniforms, common sense things, are produced here in the good, ol’, U.S. of A.

While Americans are starving. Thee should only be American content used on these power stations. I’m sick of companies talking green when they’re screwing the nation. And I hope the people learn that they should retaliate.
