When Sonia Diniz Bernardini invited the incredibly talented Campana Brothers to give her Firma Casa furniture store an eye-popping upgrade, she must have been a little shocked when they suggested to clad the entire building in 3,500 vases filled with spiky African plants. Even so, they and the budding new design firm SuperLimão Studio were given carte blanche, and the 500 square meter mixed-use building completed this year has a bold, super green look!
3,500 aluminum vases were attached to the furniture store’s exterior wall via a wire grid and then planted with no fewer than 9,000 seedlings of Espada-de-São-Jorge – a popular plant in Brazil that has African origins and protective powers. In addition to giving the store a funky new facade, the plants no doubt improve the area’s air quality. The ground just outside the store has also been laid with Elastopave®, which allows proper rainwater drainage.
Inside, the cooling and lighting infrastructure have been left exposed, giving the two-storey building complete with gallery, office and retail space an industrial chic ambience. The Campana Brothers, who are also the talent behind the crazy New Hotel in Athens and this wonderful recycled bookshelf, have once again thrilled us with their consistently groundbreaking design.
We hope you feel the same way!
