Gallery: 5 Easy and Environmentally-Friendly Last Minute Mother’s Day G...

We applaud all of you devoted sons and daughters who diligently planned what they would be doing for their moms in advance. But what about the rest of us procrastinators? Don’t panic! There are still plenty of simple and environmentally-friendly last-minute ways to show your mama how much she means to you today!

Your mom may want to be more environmentally-conscious at home, but she may not know where to start. Make it extra easy for her by switching out her incandescent bulbs with compact fluorescents or LEDs, installing powerstrips, or setting up recycling and compost bins. If you don’t have time to shop, take your mom with you to your local Home Depot or Green Depot and make a day of it (so it looks like you’d been planning to all along).

This is a great way to use leftover mailing labels or scrap paper. Pick 10 or so of the things that remind you most of your mom. Anything from the spatula she uses to make you pancakes or the brooch she only wears on special occasions. For each item, write the reason that it is significant to you both on a label and affix it to the object. Give your mom the same reasons you wrote on the labels on a piece of scrap paper and have her search for the items.  You could even end the hunt with one of these 7 delightful DIY Mother’s Day gift ideas. It’s a fun activity for you and your mom to do together and she’ll think of you every time she uses any of the objects in the future!

Like most moms, my mom loves taking photos, but she usually has to deal with mass resistance from the rest of my family to get all the shots she wants. Why not indulge your mom for Mother’s Day and have everyone dress up for a family photoshoot. Pick a cool backdrop, set up your camera, and start snapping. Upload the photos to your mom’s computer so that she can enjoy them anytime she wants or even set her favorite one as her desktop wallpaper.

This one is a no-brainer. Make your mom her favorite beverage, put her slippers out for her, and treat her to a massage and manicure. Enlist other family members to cook or clean while she gets to relax.

Cut scrap paper or leftover pieces of giftwrap (don’t you love it when you finally get to use them?!) into small rectangles and write a special memory of your mom on each one. Clip all of the pieces together with a binder clip as a memopad for your mom. Every time she goes to write a note, she’ll get to read one of your treasured memories on the other side!
