We recently stumbled on a site called Superuse which catalogs and promotes the idea of transforming waste into something useful or beautiful. Not all of the ideas on this site are fine art, but they're certainly all great ideas for reusing materials to reduce waste. While we haven't even begun to scratch the surface of all these clever innovations on the site, there are pages upon pages of amazing ideas -- like this reused CD spindle that makes for the perfect instant lunchbox for a bagel sandwich! Simply brilliant. You can see more of our favorite ideas for reuse after the jump!
This cool clock by stuffmadefromstuff was made from an old recycled aluminum bike wheel. The wheels are used and will, according to the maker, and show signs of past use, scratches, dings, etc. To get rid of some of the grime, each wheel has been scrubbed and cleaned up.
These awesome Metro Cuffs at Design Hype will help you find your way around the tube. They’re available with maps of London, NYC, Paris and Milan, and they’re simple and stylish enough to work with any outfit!
With the rise of the mobile phone, old phone booths have come in the market for reuse. Artists Benoit Deseille and Benedetto Bufalino turned one into an aquarium for the Lyon Light Festival in France. Speaking about their design, “With the advent of the mobile telephone, telephone booths lie unused. We rediscover this glass cage transformed into an aquarium, full of exotically colored fish; an invitation to escape and travel.”
A canned classic, Heinz Baked Beans ‘ tins are transformed into bold and retro lighting fixtures by FUSE. The lights also come with matching ceiling roses made from recycled tuna cans.

Kudos to all! Seeing ‘trash’ transformed into art and purposeful pieces of everyday design-ware, is just marvelous. And for all you crafters out there, Superuse also let’s you submit your own work or the work of others!
