Woven Recycled Denim Charpai Cot
Commonly used India, the charpai cot traditionally uses nylon strings, but in this modern iteration Siddharth Hirwani uses recycled strips of denim as the primary material. Three-inch strips have been cut and stitched together to make a roll of thicker material, which is used to weave the central bed on which a quilt or thin mattress can be spread out.

Over the course of six months, Alison King converted more than 120 pairs of jeans (sourced from friends and friends of friends) into an 8.5 × 10.5-foot area rug. Alison cut the all the unwanted denim she collected into long strips, sewed them together using rug braiding techniques, and crocheted herself a 100-plus-pound rug full of everyone’s memories.
