A serene white garden made of hundreds of delicate paper flowers recently bloomed in Nagasaki, Japan. Created by Swiss designer Anouk Vogel, Folding for Peace was inspired by an ancient Japanese legend that says anyone who folds one thousand origami cranes will be granted a wish (such as long life or recovery from illness or injury). Vogel's stunning paper garden consists of 1,000 paper flowers folded with a wish for peace.
Commissioned by the Gardening World Cup, Anouk Vogel‘s Folding for Peace paper garden holds an array of flowers and leaves standing on a circular bed. It was awarded the Silver Medal and Judges’ Special Award at the Festival of Flowers and World Peace. Awestruck as we are, we are still wondering if this extravagant use of paper really justifies the cause, and how environmentally conscious it is.
