Gallery: AA Students Build a Gorgeous Cocoon Treehouse Retreat in Engla...

A simple ladder connects it to the ground.

The temporary frame for the structure was constructed using only four untreated sheets of plywood and one locally milled cedar tree. The strips were bandaged together to create a façade stiff enough to be suspended from the trees. A simple ladder connects it to the ground, while a hole at the opposite end provides views of the surrounding landscape.

The 140-hectare Hooke Park features numerous other projects designed and built by the Architectural Association which owns the property. Year after year students populate the site with experimental structures, including a pod-shaped hideaway built in 2011, a super-efficient Caretaker’s House designed by the AA students and built by Invisible Studio, and Jesse Randzio’s Eco-Capsule.
