AF Bostader Builds Smallest Micro Home in Sweden to Provide Affordable Student Housing
Living alone as a student is a rare luxury – particularly in Sweden, where rent and living costs can be high. But this cozy micro cottage in Lund looks like a perfect solution for going solo – even though it’s only a scant 12 square meters in size! The mini home was designed by AF Bostader to meet demand for affordable autonomous living. Although residents may not have much room to move, it certainly seems like a snug place to retreat during the long, dark winters.
‘Bijoux dwellings’ such as AF Bostader‘s micro home are cheaper to build and maintain, although Lund’s city planners are suspicious of just how sustainable the concept is. Larger combined student dormitories are inherently more efficient, as they benefit from shared infrastructure, heating systems, piping, and wiring. On the other hand, rent for the studio apartment is almost half that of shared student accommodations, and with the current shortage of student housing, AF Bostader is working to build more of the mini homes.
