In addition to being green from the get-go (this is, after all, the
Omega Center for Sustainable Living we're talking about), the center caught the AIA's attention with its conversion of parking lots into gardens and compact design.
All of the projects the AIA chose show remarkable achievements in the areas of community, bioclimatic design, daylighting and air quality, good use of healthy materials, and great design for adaptability, versatility, and durability. In other words, everything that you would be looking for in a kick ass green architecture project.
