Shanghai-based design team Alien and Monkey has created a whole collection of furniture, lighting fixtures and packaging out of sand. The “Sand Made” collection is crafted from one of earth’s most abundant natural elements, and it's designed to crumble back into its original form at the end of the furniture's lifecycle.
The furniture is produced using molds made from reclaimed wood . Alien and Monkey deploy traditional processes of ceramic manufacturing to create the molds for the Sand Furniture.
The Sand Packaging revisits the act of giving and receiving gifts. Instead of following the trends of mass production, the artists of Alien and Monkey use traditional craftsmanship and knowledge to create packaging out of sand and wood saw-dust and bring back the story-telling aspect to the experience of opening a present.
