All-Electric Tata Nano Revealed in Geneva
Posted By Ariel Schwartz On March 4, 2010 @ 2:07 pm In Green Transportation | 5 Comments
We were beyond excited upon learning that the world’s cheapest car, the Tata Nano [5], might be released in hybrid [6] form. But it looks like Tata has skipped the step of going hybrid and has decided to release an all-electric version of the Nano instead!
The Tata Nano EV, revealed this week at the Geneva Auto Show [8], seats four adults and is outfitted with “super polymer lithium ion batteries”. The car isn’t meant for going too far or too fast– it offers up a range of just 99 miles and goes from 0 to 60 kilometers per hour in less than 10 seconds. But consider this: the regular Tata Nano costs $2,200. The electric version will cost significantly more because of its lithium-ion batteries, but we’re betting that Tata’s expertise in making ultra-cheap vehicles could keep the Nano EV in an accessible price range for most consumers. We’ll find out when the car goes into production later this year.
