Gallery: Porky Hefer’s Cozy Human Nests Hang From the Treetops!

Cape Town, South Africa-based Porky Hefer has created an incredible series of cozy nests for humans that can be perched high up in the trees! The amazing woven nests are handmade from natural materials and are inspired examples of biomimicry that emulate the building techniques of weaver birds. Click through our gallery to check out a collection of these cozy pods and dream of what it would feel like to be a bird!

Porky Hefer has been working as a creative consultant since 2007. His human nests are specially designed for each customer, context and needs. They can be hung from trees, posts, or even suspended stilts, and they are only made from natural, biodegradable materials.

Weaved in collaboration with Mthobeli Aaron Bakana, this gorgeous nest hangs from a tree and has enough space for two adults. The nests are made by weaving bark and branches through a wooden structure. The shape of pod is inspired by intensive research into the nests of different kinds of weaverbirds, including buffalo weavers, masked weavers, and golden weavers.

Beautiful, organic, and light on the earth, Porky Hefer´s Nests are great sustainable spaces in which to retreat from the world – alone or with somebody else!
