In the past I have spent $70 for halloween costumes. When my husband and I started looking at where waisted money was going so we started making their costumes. I take the girls to the library and I find how-to costume books two months before halloween and I let them choose which one they want to be. All the costumes are easy to make and use items that are to be recycled like, boxes, stryrofoam, bubble wrap, and anything. We have rubbed off on some of the parents in our community and our local costume contest has gotten more competative since I started tell them how little all of their costumes cost. My kids totally freak out to the darkness. We have street lights that keep our place lit up at night so the kids are not used to total darkness in the home.
