THE FATE OF SUBURBIA IS IN YOUR HANDS!
With the current housing crisis, the sub-prime mortgage meltdown, and rising energy costs, the future of suburbia looks bleak. Foreclosure signs are the new lawn ornaments and the Obama administration is reportedly considering plans to raze sections of 50 economically depressed US cities, condensing these towns’ shrinking populations. It is obvious that a change is necessary, which is why Dwell Magazine and Inhabitat.com are reaching out to all future-forward architects, urban designers, renegade planners and imaginative engineers to enter your visions for a brighter more sustainable suburban future in the ReBurbia competition.
Could YOUR design change the landscape of America?
What would a McMansion become if it weren’t a single-family dwelling? How could a vacant big box store be retrofitted to provide for local agriculture? What sort of design solutions can you come up with to facilitate car-free mobility, ‘burb-grown food, and local, renewable energy generation? How would you design future-proof spaces and systems using the suburban structures of the present, from small-scale retrofits to large-scale restoration? Dwell and Inhabitat want you to show us how YOU would re-invent the suburbs.
PRIZES
Out of the twenty top finalists, one grand prize winner will be chosen by the judges to receive the $1000 cash prize and the highest honor of the competition. The grand prize winner will be featured on Inhabitat.com, Dwell.com and in the December issue of Dwell Magazine. 2 runners up and a ‘Reader’s Choice’ winner will also be selected, based on the popular vote online. The 2nd prize winner, 3rd prize winner, and ‘Reader’s Choice’ winner will all also be featured in the December issue of Dwell magazine.

Just curious, is this an Internaitonal competition?…Are non-Americans/non-Canadians eligible for submitting entries and eligible for winning a prize?.
I read the Eligibilty section of the official rules and it did not mention anything about nationality issues.
So are non-Westerners allowed to participate?
