We architects, should always look at somebody like Niemeyer as an inspiration, to be encouraged to think outside the square. Although his designs were not a reference for sustainability, he was a pioneer as he had the intentions by using shading screens in some of his buildings in the 60's. As a Brazilian and as an architect, I will always be proud and admire his work for his creativity and audacious proposals. Brazil and the world lost an important figure, but his example will live forever. Besides we have the same profession and we both worked in Brazil and overseas, his Birthday is back to back with mine and I always used to make a toast for him too...This year, I will celebrate his spirit.
