Arcimoto Unveils “Red 5″ SRK EV Prototype with Help of Actors Nathan Fillion, Jon Huertas

It’s not every electric automaker who gets called up by sci-fi cult fan favorite and primetime TV star Nathan Fillion [5] and his Castle co-star Jon Huertas [6] and asked for a test drive. But that is apparently what happens when your EV [7] prototype evolves from something akin to a mobility scooter for seniors to a flexible three-wheeled car with racing-inspired suspension [8]. EV maker Arcimoto had been testing the market with its early prototypes down the West Coast and was encouraged by the celebrity interest in the predecessor to its new prototype [9] SRK, which it revealed in late April. The car aims to fill the gap for small commuter and errand vehicles that would meet the needs of an estimated 76% of drivers on the road today–those driving alone or with just one or two passengers on quick trips.

The Arcimoto SRK had humble beginnings, as you can see in the photo of the early yellow prototype below, but the vehicle [11] has evolved to become a commuting car, an ultra-efficient delivery vehicle, and a roadgoing buggy in one, all by switching out skins that snap onto the vehicle. The SRK is currently capable of speeds up to 65 miles per hour and a 0-60 time of 9.8 seconds, but we expect that to improve by the time this little guy goes to production. Mr. Huertas described the maneuverability of the SRK as “like driving a shark!”
Mr. Fillion thanked Arcimoto for the new vehicle at its reveal with these comments: “Thank you for making a cleaner vehicle [12] for which the energy infrastructure already exists. Thank you for seeing a need facing a mere 90% of the population, and filling it. Thank you for giving me a way to stick it to big oil and big auto companies. Because… I am a vengeful man. And they’ve been sticking it to me for a long time. No matter how old I get, I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of the fact that it looks a little like a spaceship. I’m kind of into spaceships, so thanks for that.”
