Gallery: Artist Calvin Nicholls Creates Life-like Animals Sculptures fr...

Calvin Nicholls elegantly represents his local natural environment.

Calvin Nicholls has been creating his paper sculptures since 1986 and is now a master of the art. Working with just sheets of paper and a scalpel, he creates the most wonderful 3D pictures inspired by the plants and animals of the Canadian woodland.

Using a large format camera, he first captures the image and prints it as a model for his design. The artist then employs archival paper to sculpt his work — the paper is acid-free and is able to stand the test of time.

Dubbed everything from “Subordinate approach” (fox), “Boreal owl” or “Abundance” (hummingbird), Nicholls’ creations are the exploration and sculpting of ideas.
