China alone uses 45 billion pairs of disposable chopsticks annually, so you can easily see why the waste generated from these single-use utensils is a big problem. To call attention to the issue and showcase a possible use for all those reusable sticks of wood, artist Yuya Ushida spent about 3 months constructing this remarkable sofa out of 8,000 recycled chopsticks. What’s even cooler is that the elegant seat can collapse and expand, transforming from a single chair to a couch fit for three.
