Aswoon/Susan Woods Studio in Brooklyn designs and fabricates furniture and architectural additions for interiors and exteriors, as well as providing a platform for high-end artists and designers. The studio, located in the Brooklyn Navy Yard is providing furniture for this year’s Semi-permanent design conference in NYC.
Among the new products emerging from Aswoon is a line of bent plywood furniture and room dividers. The pieces have a remarkable movement to them, reminiscent of those ribbony peppermint candies you see during the holidays. The striated coloring and curled edges of the plywood give them an absolutely unique look, both refined and accidental.

Beautiful stuff, but that “sofa” looks terribly uncomfortable!
Looks terribly rendered.
Not sure what to make of that sofa. The room dividers are quite gorgeous, however.
I can’t help but feel that some designer’s websites are too hip for their own good; Tom Dixon’s comes to mind, and this is another example. The room dividers, while beautiful, lack even the simplest info, like dimensions, etc. Slap a price on it; don’t be timid!
Give the visitor something to work with!

Their works vary from several product lines for use as screens, paneling, furniture, and space dividers, to consultation and creation of custom projects. Their fabrication studio in the DUMBO neighborhood specializes in wood and metal construction, and has produced work for many well known retail clients. While their metal work is striking for its organic, yet clean lined look, it is the bent plywood pieces which we can’t get enough of. They evoke gigantic versions of curled birch tree shavings, turning the scale of the personal interface on its head, as well as the perception of fragility. [...]
