Audi ^[4] recently unveiled some changes to their 2013 Audi Q5 ^[5] midsize SUV range, which will include their first ever hybrid ^[6] model. The 2013 Audi Q5 Hybrid Quattro combines a four-cylinder engine with an electric motor and lithium-ion battery ^[7] to give the SUV the power of a V6 engine, but with the fuel economy of a more efficient four-cylinder engine.

The Q5 Hybrid Quattro is powered by a 2.0L TFSI four-cylinder engine that is mated to an electric motor ^[8]. The two motors generate a combined output of 245 horsepower and 354 lb-ft. of torque. The hybrid system sends its power to all four wheels via an eight-speed tiptronic transmission and Audi’s ^[9] Quattro all-wheel-drive system. The electric motor gets its power from a compact lightweight lithium-ion battery system with 1.3 kWh energy capacity.

The driver can switch between three driving modes with the touch of a button. The EV ^[10] mode prioritizes the electric drive, while the D mode efficiently controls both the four-cylinder engine and electric motor. The S mode is configured for a sporty style of driving. The Audi Q5 Hybrid Quattro can be driven with just the four-cylinder engine, just the electric drive or in hybrid mode.

Audi ^[4] claims that the Audi Q5 Hybrid Quattro will reach 0-62 mph in 7.1 seconds and that it can drive in pure electric mode for just under 2 miles at a constant speed of 37 mph. It also has a combined fuel economy ^[11] rating of 34 mpg.

The 2013 Audi Q5 Hybrid Quattro will be recognized by its fully painted bumpers and ten spoke turbine wheels when it arrives this summer.
