The central Illinois town of Normal (yes, that is the actual name of the town) has a new roundabout that doubles as a living plaza where stormwater recycling, public space, and transportation work in unison. The Circle, designed by Hoerr Schaudt Landscape Architects, cleanses water collected from surrounding streetscapes through chemical-free filtration bogs and then returns it to the site in the form of a public water feature. Later, the water is recycled again to irrigate the adjacent streets.
