A British facility once used to test Cold War submarine technology has been converted into an award-winning modern house — and it could all be yours for a cool £ 4 million (or a little over $6.1 million US). The Rotunda in Bushy Park was designed by Norman & Dawbarn architects to reflect the original circular shape of the Rotating Beam Laboratory while providing a bright and airy dwelling.

Two eco-houses in Taastrup, Denmark have been built by the Danish Technological Institute in cooperation with Henning Larsen Architects to serve as a high-tech laboratory intended to guide the future of green building. EnergyFlex House features two 2,100 square foot structures packed with the latest in green design technology and materials. One structure serves as a laboratory to study and document green systems and materials, while the other houses a family full time.

Nestled behind a hedge at the top of a typical residential street in Brisbane, Australia, a large water tower has gone domestic. Faced with obsolescence, the 1940s cylindrical concrete tower in the Brisbane suburb of Balmoral has been converted into a unique residence by Riddel Architecture. The house features a doughnut plan with rooms arranged around a central atrium. Adaptive reuse prevailed over demolition of the Balmoral Water Reservoir as the heavily reinforced concrete walls would have been too difficult to remove.
