Blindshine is a hanging lamp that I created from damaged Venetian blinds. Although the blinds were no longer functional for my windows, there was plenty of useful material left. I thought about the material’s inherent qualities, and its translucency makes it perfect for a lamp. I created the base from a Tupperware lid, cut the blinds, and punched grommets to secure them to the base. It is rewarding to create a useful product from something that would have otherwise ended up in a landfill. It is my hope that Blindshine will inspire others to apply my methods and thought process to all things. It may be simple and seemingly small, but collectively if everyone were to adopt this model of thinking we can make a difference and move toward a more sustainable future.
