Energy-sucking 60-watt incandescent light bulbs are still found in homes around the world, however there a variety of light bulbs out there that last longer, consume less energy, and provide up to 95% of the light output. Considering the fact that incandescent bulbs will be phased out in the near future (January 2014, to be exact), it’s time to consider replacing them with efficient alternatives. Electricity blackouts in the United States have skyrocketed over the past two decades, making it all the more important for homeowners to have backup systems in place in case their power goes out. With that in mind, the LED Power Outage Lighting System is a product that is able to detect a power outage and automatically send a signal to turn on bright, battery-powered lights installed throughout the home. The goal, says online retailer Pegasus Lighting, is to ensure children and elderly individuals never face that unpredictable plunge into darkness. The system is priced reasonably at $89.99 and includes two LED ceiling lights, a path light, and a power outage detector/detachable flashlight that will all turn on automatically if the power goes out.
