These colorful Husque bowls are crafted using the recycled hulls of Macadamia nuts by Queensland-based designer Marc Harrison. Through the use of local materials and local symbology, Harrison hopes to create a connection between his products and the end-user.

This summer the roof of the Metropolitan Museum of Art sprouted an incredible bamboo jungle as artists Doug and Mike Starn erected their “Big Bambú: You Can’t, You Don’t and You Won’t Stop” installation. We last reported on the installation back in April, and we recently had a chance to take some exclusive photographs to show the remarkable transformation that this piece has undergone thus far. The artists and a team of savvy rock climbers have built upon existing architectural element to create an original piece that fuses performance art, architecture and sculpture. The installation, which will run until the 31st of October, is mid-way materialized, and its final form will feature a cresting wave that reaches 50 feet above the rooftop.

A warehouse rooftop in Brooklyn is probably the last place you’d expect to see a farm — however this year the Broadway Stages Building burst forth with a burgeoning rooftop crop of fruits and vegetables. Measuring 6,000 square feet, the Eagle Street Rooftop Farm is one of the few places in New York you can catch a view of a bed of lettuce growing against the backdrop of the Manhattan skyline. The farm is an incredible local establishment that boasts a diverse crop of organic vegetables and even maintains a colony of Italian honey bees! Their onsite market — which is open to the public on Sundays — gives any enterprising individual the opportunity to purchase freshly-picked vegetables and learn about the process of organic farming in an urban environment.
