New York designer Kellam Clark‘s magical Starlight lamp is a “shining” example of long-lasting, sustainable design with its combination of LED lights and recycled metal coins that cast varying shadows as you walk by. The bold energy efficient chandelier was born out of Clark’s desire to keep perfectly good materials from going into landfills and is made of metal scraps saved from one of Italy’s oldest metalwork companies, Metalmarc.

One of our favorite designs from Milan Design Week was John Pawson’s House of Stone, which is constructed from stone blocks composed of 99% recycled granite. Working together with the leading stone craftsmen of Italy under the auspices of Gabriele Salvatori, Pawson found a way to utilize tons of cast-off stone, which cost millions of Euros to dispose of. His elegant stone house is composed of stone ‘bricks’ and features a series of fissures that create beautiful plays of light — both inside and out.

South African designer Heath Nash unveiled a colorful, eclectic chandelier made almost entirely from recycled PET bottles at this year’s Milan Design Week. Dubbed Bottleformball, the brilliantly-hued recycled creation is crafted from multicolored pieces of salvaged bottles attached to a hand-made wire structure. We love how the artfully arranged bottle pieces look almost like colored ceramics when illuminated from within.
