Consumer Reports recently tried out the Tesla Model S electric car, and after all the testing was done, the magazine found that the Model S outscored every other car in their ratings. “It does so even though it’s an electric car. In fact it does so because it is electric,” Consumer Reports stated. Consumer Reports gave the Model S high marks for its impressive power, overall balance and comfortable ride.

General Motors has released the official EPA ratings for the 2014 Chevy Spark electric vehicle, which goes on sale this summer in California and Oregon. The 2014 Spark EV has a driving range of up to 82 miles when fully charged and an EPA-estimated combined city/highway 119 MPGe, making it the most efficient retail electric vehicle available in the US.

Fiat just announced that its 2013 500e electric car will start at $32,500 before available tax incentives. Starting this summer, California residents can purchase the 500e for as low as $20,500 after federal credits, state incentives and Fiat rebates are included. That’s about $200 less than the current starting price of a comparably equipped Fiat 500 Lounge with a gas engine.

Aston Martin has unveiled a new hydrogen-powered Rapide S, which is based on Aston Martin’s four-door, four-seat sports car. The hydrogen Rapide S was developed in partnership with hydrogen experts Alset Global and will become the first car of its kind to compete in an international event when it hits the track at the 41st ADAC Zurich 24 Hours of Nürburgring next month.

Renault and British designer Ross Lovegrove just took the wraps off the Renault Twin’Z electric concept car. The Twin’Z is an all-electric city car with rear-wheel drive, a 100 mile range and a 86-hp rear-mounted electric motor. It draws its inspiration from the heritage of some of the Renault’s other models like the Renault 5 and Renault Twingo, but Renault invited British designer Ross Lovegrove to add some extra design touches.

For the 2013 model year Nissan updated the Leaf and even moved production to its Tennessee plant. The changes resulted in a price drop by $6,400 and higher inventory numbers, which together helped Nissan surpass the record it set in June of 2011, when 1,708 Leafs were sold.

Fisker Automotive has confirmed his resignation, but with very little details as to why. According to an email from Henrik Fisker announcing his resignation, he left the company that he helped create because of “several major disagreements . . . with the Fisker Automotive executive management on the business strategy.”
