A recent scientific study has found that sea levels are rising 60% faster than previously expected. Satellite data collected by US-based mathematician Grant Foster and German climatologist Stefan Rahmstorf shows that towns on both the East and West coast of the United States, including New York, Los Angeles, and much of the state of Florida are now considered “hot spots” where water levels are increasing at twice the rate of the rest of the planet.

There are plenty of beautiful bridges that carry cars and pedestrians across the Seine River in Paris, so awesome design firm AZC has another idea in store. Why not create a bridge dedicated to fun? Their inflatable crosswalk features enormous trampolines in the center of each of the three rings for people to bounce and flip their way over the water. With their eyes set on a strip near the Bir-Hakeim bridge, AZC wants their blow-up bridge to be a place where anyone can engage with their surroundings, and experience Paris like never before.

Scientists have been trying to develop cheap, alternative building materials for years. But there’s one material that is surprisingly strong, secure, waterproof and perhaps just too creepy to handle: animal blood. Recent architectural graduate Jack Munro realized this abundant, greatly wasted substance, could be used as a building material in underdeveloped countries. However the controversial material is definitely a red flag for environmentalists already concerned about the numerous negative environmental impacts of the beef industry, while vegans and various religious groups will certainly not rest their head under a roof made of blood. Still, Munro argues that this innovative yet icky idea may have the potential to create new jobs and cleaner communities.

Lets face it – its rare we see a government goal reached on time, let alone early. Not too long ago, the Danish Government announced an ambitious goal to reach 200 megawatts of solar capacity by 2020, and as of last week, they have already met it! The country is currently installing an average of 36 megawatts of solar panels each month. At this rate, their resulting capacity by 2020 will be over five times the original goal. Denmark‘s power is currently 20% supplied by renewable sources, and the nation has set a goal of sourcing 100% of its energy from renewable sources by 2050.

We have fawned over The Green School in Bali many times before, and they have wowed us once again. Overseen by Indonesian firm PT Bamboo Pure, students and visitors constructed a bamboo bridge in only four months! The hand-built Millennium Bridge consists of 192 bamboo poles to symbolize the world’s numerous countries and was entirely funded by donations. The team not only used local materials, but also implemented ancient and traditional building techniques, including a lalang-alang thatched grass roof.

A Big Mac may be the international sign for McDonald’s, but not in India. The fast-food giant will open its very first all-vegetarian location in the South-Asian country next year, as part of a move to break through to a market that is 20 to 42% meat-free. With McAloo Tikki potato burgers leading the pack, McDonald’s is in for a real transition as it tries to appeal to both a Hindu population, which considers cows sacred, and the Muslim community that doesn’t eat pork. The first location, in true McDonald’s fashion, will be next door to a bustling tourist site – the Golden Temple in Amritsar, northern India.

LEGO fans rejoice! Gadget guru Michael McCooey just unveiled a super cool flexible Spiderman action figure made entirely from LEGO bricks. McCooey is an active member of the Lego Cuusoo network, which encourages fans of the famous toy building bricks to share their designs – and he stepped up to the challenge to build an action figure that was not only agile and posable, but also slim and natural looking like the amazing super hero himself.  The finished figurine is designed to bend and twist into all of Spidey’s limber poses, and of course it can hang upside down.

The Milan Expo 2015 is already underway and in true Italian fashion, food and sustainability are the main focus. The amazing designers Sebastiano Ercoli and Alessandro Garlandini have created a fun and easy way for visitors to taste the delicious Expo cuisine on the go! Their “Lunchbook” is a collection of bound paper dishes featuring decorated borders and unique recipes from countries all over the world printed at their center. Visitors can fan out the pages and sample foods from various exhibitors at once, throw away their plates, or rinse them for another round of eats!
