Gallery: BAKE FOR A CHANGE: Gingerbread House Contest!

Sweet and sustainable, what could be better? Spice it up while promoting global ideals and you’ve got an idea that’s deliciously irresistible. That’s just what the multi-disciplinary non-profit Terry* is doing this month by sponsoring a gingerbread house contest that is as edible as it is engaging. The deadline for entries is midnight PST, December 31, 2007, so visit the Bake For a Change website for the contest rules and submission guide lines. Read on for details…

Terry* is a project out of the University of British Columbia aimed at addressing global issues such as AIDS, climate change, poverty and sustainability. A partnership between the sciences and humanities is at the core of its mission. What better way to spark dialogue than filling the winter air with warm scents and letting visions of gingerbread dance through your head?

You can be the architect but each house must contain at least four identifiable, sustainable building elements. Think energy-efficiency, water conservation, sustainable materials and, don’t forget, edible. The challenge is to Bake For a Change and create a house that exists in harmony with the environment, but is good enough to eat.

The deadline for entries is midnight PST, December 31, 2007, so visit the Bake For a Change website for the contest rules and submission guide lines.

Think Globally, Bake Locally.

I am looking for instructions for the Kyoto or other solar stoves. I want to teach the children at our summer day camps how to build them. Eliza Olson, Burns Bog Conservation Society, http://www.burnsbog.org 604.572.0373
