We don’t monkey around when it comes to picking out our organic fruit. And one year-round favorite that always finds itself in our bags is that yellow little delight you could easily call nature’s miracle fruit. We love bananas for their self-containing peel and super nutritious snack ready state, but while they do come naturally pre-packaged, if your one of the many who like grabbing one on the go for a late afternoon pick me up, you may often find that pristine yellow treat in a less than fortunate state. So say goodbye to smashed and bruised bananas because the Banana Guard has got it covered – literally. Made from FDA approved BPA-free, recyclable plastic, this banana shaped case is the perfect way to protect your banana no matter what size it may come in. Dishwasher safe and totally reusable, the Banana Guard is a cute and fun way to rescue your fruit from the perils of premature composting!

I don’t see what the problem is with this post. For someone that eats bananas everyday, this is a really useful idea. Yes, of course bananas come in their own “natural case”, but they’re not coconuts! This case isn’t for bringing bananas home from the market, its for people who actually carry a banana with them throughout the day or on long trips. Bananas get brown and mushy when put into a bag — any kind of bag — so how is this not a good idea that saves your belongings from potentially getting ruined? With the case, you can just throw the banana in your bag and not worry about constantly watching it to make sure it’s on top. It’s not about being lazy, it’s about actually taking care of your fruit so you don’t end up wasting it.

I only joined this site yesterday, but I have to say I agree with aplambeck. I was surprised to see plastic packaging designed for a fruit which has already its own packaging!
We just need to be careful how we carry bananas around! Squished bananas are not a problem worth solving with another injection molded product. Consumers too often justify the purchase of yet another product to make life that tiny bit easier. Just be more careful how you carry bananas with you. When did we all get so lazy?

Ridiculous. I can’t believe I’m seeing this featured and supported by supposed environmentalists. This is totally wasteful and frivolous. How about using a practical bag on a day to day basis and keeping the banana close to the top of the bag. Inhabitat what the fuck?

i actually use this banana case and i find it really useful and practical. yeah, it’s not going to save the planet, but on a personal level i’d rather use this than have banana all over my laptop and the inside of my purse – which has happened often before. also i’m not into paying $1 for an overpriced banana at a deli or wrapping it up in other plastics or paper bags that end up going in the trash for lack of recycling cans in my city. but if my case ever reaches the end of its useful life, then i’ll recycle it.

I\’m officially removing Inhabitat from my feedreader because of this post. What a terribly wasteful, unitasking product. How can this be pitched on an environmental site?!

Next we\’ll hear about how buying a large plastic case to carry my vegan muffins without smashing them is going to save the planet.

    Goodbye, Inhabitat. It\’s been fun.
