The Trashcars event took place at the center for creation Fabra i Coats in Barcelona and was part of the BCN Design Festival. An international array of designers and architects participated in the challenge, and their diversity is represented in the creativity of the finished projects. A team of French architects from Pimpilimpausa turned a discarded car into a funky green space; the local studio Bel&Bel created a cool fridge made entirely out of Seat 1500 car parts; designers Cristian Montesinos and Guillem Ferran from Barcelona teamed up to transform a 6th R, Relove, and investigate the domestification of car parts; and Starter from Sabadell turned a whole car into a robot/DJ booth and spiced the closing night with a DJ and visual performance.

Overall, the event was well received by upcycling enthusiasts as well as the general public. Trashcars enjoyed direct media coverage from online magazines MAKA BCN, Diario Design and Sin Freno, thousands of shares and likes on the social media, and more than 150 in-person visitors.

“Our efforts to introduce environmental awareness in the society do not end here,” states Transfodesign on its website. “In 2012 we started our corporate training workshops based on transformation and recycling. We remain dedicated to our cause and strive to educate individuals, companies and societies.”
