Gallery: Basic House is a Golden Self-Inflating Home That Fits in Your ...

Made of metallic polyester, the basic house is like a tiny, self-inflating prefab home. As soon as it interacts with either body temperature or heat from the sun, the inflatable shelter transforms from a flat sheet of material to an insulated home that provides shelter against the elements. And if it’s warm outside, it is possible to turn the house inside out so that it deflects solar gain.

The designer argues that this product, which has been featured at MoMA since 2007 and the Vitra Design Museum, creates a more immediate and less complicated interaction with nature than our runaway consumption habits have created.

Ever try and sleep in a plastic \’tube\’ tent?

Unless this shelter is made of some sort of breathable fabric it will be uninhabitable in only one night. The human body puts out several litres of water through respiration alone. A plastic tent will soon fill with condensation and make anyone inside truly miserable. Even in a normal tent, when it is cold, icicles and frost will build up on the inside of the tent.

This design looks great, but I bet nobody would ever want to sleep in it twice.

This would be nice to hand out to the homeless.

So, what if theres no wind, will it collapse? and if it is wind, it must constantly blow through the opening, which will chill the heated air?
Didnt quite understand this great concept…

How long does it stay inflated? Most bubble type structures require a fan to stay upright.
