Beautiful Brazilian Beach House Made from Sustainable Wood, Stone and Recycled Tetra Pak Cartons

Located within an area where the root vegetable tapioca [6] crops grow, the house was constructed using 12-foot modules and simple, locally available, green and long lasting materials. In order to enjoy the magnificent sea and forests views, the clients asked Pedro Saito for an outdoor wood deck. The chosen material was ipê wood [7], a tree widely used for furniture and outdoor applications, including decking, due to its insect resistance and durability.

The home’s structure was made from certified maçaranduba wood [8], a fruit tree native from South America that is also used for its latex [9]. The indoor space is large, unique and very flexible. The walls were simply made with precast panels and OSB, and the roof from T Plak, a recycled Tetra Pak [10] cartons plaque.

The kitchen is integrated with the living room, and both rooms have huge windows overlooking the luscious surroundings. The window frames were made from recyclable aluminum and another tropical wood native from Brazil called muracatiara.

More than a half of the home’s land is situated within an environmental protection area, which provides for spectacular natural views from every room. Large skylight [11] windows at the roof let the sun shine in, while a top second deck provides an elevated point that is perfect spot for gazing at the stars.
