Beautiful Papercraft Tree Pledges to Save 6,500 Acres of Rainforest

The idea of a tree made from paper is kind of sad and ironic. Luckily, design group Le Creative Sweatshop constructed this paper tree from recycled , FSC-certified and carbon-neutral paper stock. Ultimately, this beautiful and intricate artwork is a plug for a generous act by Arjowiggins Creative Papers , who have pledged to save one hectare of Brazilian rainforest for every delegate at last month’s COP15 conference .
The COP15 conference had 65 delegates, so Arjowiggins Creative Papers has pledged to preserve 65 hectares (6,500 acres). They’re doing it through the World Land Trust , putting up funds to purchase and maintain the land. The symbolic and celebratory paper tree is made of Arjowiggins’ sustainable paper stock, and Le Creative Sweatshop has done some fantastic things with paper, from installations to jewelery.
As an aside: it’s kind of nice that we’re living at a time when an ecological act is a good publicity stunt. Makes you want to water an oak. Then post it on facebook .
