Discarded rubber tires and inner tubes are among the largest and most problematic sources of waste worldwide. Tires are made to be incredibly strong and long lasting, which is great for the operation of a vehicle, but a nightmare when it comes to recycling. Luckily, the same strength and durability that makes these items difficult to recycle, makes them ideal for repurposing into something new. Benjamin Weinstein has just launched a Kickstarter campaign to create upcycled bags and cases for the iPhone, iPad, and iPad Mini from discarded tires and inner tubes. Every bag and case produced will take a piece of tire out of the waste stream—and they look great to boot!
