His work embodies sustainable ideals with natural materials, and reflects organic processes and cycles within a fresh, contemporary context. by Alexandra Kain

Plants for indoor air quality, EPA dangers of VOCs, volatile organic chemicals in the home, plants VOCs, plants for indoor health, indoor plants cleaner air

It has been almost 20 years since the EPA confirmed the dangers of indoor VOCs (volatile organic chemicals), yet so little has been done to make the air inside our homes and offices and less toxic. Poor ventilation systems, sealed buildings and our use of synthetic products in the home are the main causes of our inner-pollution and, for most of us, these problems can’t be reversed overnight. But with the help of plant therapy, we can combat household VOCs and breathe easier. That is why we are super excited about this excellent Plants for Your Health chart from Good Magazine.

PJUX, PJUX shoes, PJUX eco-leather shoes, PJUX handmade Spanish shoes, PJUX Ekovaruhuset, Copenhagen-based PJUX, PJUX sustainable style, PJUX green accessories, PJUX green fashion, pjuxshoes_2.jpg

Our perennially eco-chic friends at Ekovaruhuset NY turned us onto these divinely fabulous eco-leather shoes from PJUX. Beautifully crafted in Spain in a small artisan factory, PJUX collections are the result of a Copenhagen-based designer dream team and traditional Spanish leather craftsmanship and artistry. Environmentally responsible, fair trade, and fashioned for true longevity, sustainable style really does not get any better than this. Shoes should be worn, resoled, and passed on to the next generation, in my opinion, and with genuine quality like PJUX, who would want to search any further for a lasting style investment?

Inspired by forms and functions found in nature, this approach to sustainable design allows for environmentally friendly solutions for energy, waste reduction and a bevy of other design challenges. Using biomimicry as the guiding design principle, the Australian firm BioPower Systems has developed Biowave: an ocean power system that harnesses energy by mimicking the motion of underwater plants in the ocean currents to generate electricity.

Unhygienic toilets reeking of human excreta have left many a traveler with an unpleasant experience, and have been an environmental burden as well. But things are starting to change for the better. Indian rails will soon boast eco-friendly toilets, thanks to an initiative from the Honorable Minister of Railways Laloo Prasad Yadav.
