Gallery: BLOOM Seed spewing device for your bike!

The long-awaited competition results for the Design 21: Power to the Pedal contest have finally been announced, and although there are some outstanding and innovatively green winners in the top finalists list, there is one entry that did not receive a top award that we were particularly impressed by – enough to give it some call-out attention. The Bloom bike device by Society Creative, LLC, puts a whole new spin on ‘exhaust plumes’ by attaching a reservoir-like-tube that emits bubbles and seeds as you peddle along pathways and paved surfaces. We think that Bloom is a clever way to encourage bike transport as well as greening strategies that literally clean up the streets with vegetable based soap and seeds. What better way to subversively draw attention to guerrilla gardening tactics than on a bicycle built for (seeded) spew?

Does anyone know if this will work with marijuana seeds?

I adore this idea. There are so many spaces where there could be flowers and there’s nothing, and no where else for flowers to grow. This idea really could make a crowded city much prettier…if it gets past foot traffic that is.

I like the idea of seed bombs, but great care is warranted. A nasty side-effect of driving is transporting seeds all over the countryside. As long as seeds are local, indigenous species, okay. But I\\\\\\\’m not sure I trust the judgement of all the cyclists out there, who may be seeding our native bikeways with unwanted weeds.

I love this! Where can I get one? I\’ve always wanted a bubbler for my bike (to perk up the day of those sullen car-drivers), but seed planting bubbles are even better.

Nice idea, but this is going to lead to the increased use of herbicides as cities attempt to control the weeds growing out of the cracks in the concrete.
