Gallery: BLUESKY MOD

For those who’ve dreamed of getting away from the pace of urban life without giving up their platform bed, BlueSky MOD has developed a modern cabin that can be prefabricated, delivered, and erected- in 10 days no less- on your wilderness of choice. The 640 sq-ft prototype has some similar appeals as the Tiny Tumbleweed Houses profiled last month; the cabin is designed to be ecologically responsible, flexible, and modular, all within a relatively small footprint.

Utilizing renewable materials, LED lighting, and a composting toilet, the units are designed to fit within a variety of rural landscapes with a minimum reliance on grid supplied utilities. While many ?prefab? dwellings project an unfortunate kit assembly appearance, the BlueSky model relies on local (Ontario) red cedar cladding for a modern take on the cabin aesthetic.

The unit shown here, designed by Todd Saunders, is the first of what will likely become many customizable models. Currently the cost of the cabins is estimated to be about $150 to $250 dollars per sq-ft. The company is taking orders for assembly in spring 2006.

What about floor plan? $150. to $250./sq. ft. sounds ridiculous. Does this include installation? Pictures look good only the price doesn’t.
