Austria-based Bramberger [architects] won a competition to design the High Tech Campus in Villach, Austria. Their elegant, functional design integrates the most efficient layout for a modern educational campus, including administrative offices, educational facilities and extensive green space. When complete, it is expected to be one of the most advanced projects of its kind in the country.
Specifically, the HTC Campus design uses four buildings with four equivalent open spaces connected through a central communication axis referred to as the “Communication Promenade.” This design was specifically chosen to create a highly-efficient infrastructure needed by a campus specializing in investigation and research.
According to the architects, the chess-like layout of the buildings “allows a multiplicity of visual relations between interior and exterior spaces.” The surrounding natural landscape will be preserved at the moment in order to be used for versatile functions in the future such as additional educational or research facilities.
Construction on the HTC Campus is planned for spring 2014 and is estimated for completion in summer 2015.
