An exciting new development in the world of prefab designs happened today, when Blu Homes, an East coast prefab home designer, announced that they had acquired the assets of mkDesigns, Michelle Kaufman’s prefab home design company. Back in May we were so saddened to hear that Michelle was closing the doors of her firm due to the crash in the housing market. This new development is huge and combines the manufacturing capabilities of Blu Homes with Michelle’s amazing talent, letting her continue doing what she does best – design fabulous green homes.
Michelle Kaufman has been working to advance sustainable building and homes since 2002 and her most well known designs include the Glidehouse™, mkLotus™, and Sunset Breezehouse™. Michelle will now serve as a design consultant to Blu Homes and its advisory board. Meanwhile her home designs will continue to be offered as an eco-luxury product and the homes will benefit from Blu Homes’ innovative technology and building science inventions that they have worked hard to advance over the last couple years.
Blu Homes, based in Waltham, Massachusetts, will continue its current line of home designs focused on value-oriented customers looking for healthy, green living at a mainstream price. Their home designs include the Origin, Balance, Evolution, and Element (coming soon). Blu Homes is working hard to make healthy and sustainable homes affordable for the average American family and utilizes computer modeling, analysis and advanced prefab construction techniques.
“I am thrilled the work mkDesigns started will be continued with Blu Homes,” said Michelle Kaufmann. “Blu and I share similar values and by using its extraordinary proprietary technology, Blu can offer Americans across the country a wide range of beautiful, convenient and economical green homes. I am happy to be working with them on a common vision of the future that we can all be proud of.”
