The sculpture consists of holographic light-defractive glass lenses.
King’s latest magnificent design is just one in a series of chromatic sculptures designed to incorporate the sun, a body of work which evokes Sir Arthur C. Clark’s science fiction tale “Wind from the Sun” in which a spacecraft was propelled by sunlight.
The sculpture consists of holographic light-defractive glass lenses suspended together using 20 horizontal cables and positioned to face the southern meridian of the sun for nighttime illumination. The colossal structure resembles part of a Chinese Dragon kite and is anchored at either end. Take a look at the video of the artwork by Julian King, along with photos of its construction.
