Working to counter the inherently environmentally destructive nature of a car-based commute, British firm Town Centre Car Parks [4] has committed to making their public car parks environmentally friendly by installing the largest urban solar photovoltaic array in the UK. Situated on the roof of the Clarence Dock multi-story car park in Leeds city center, the system provides 15% of the car park’s electricity, reducing carbon emissions by 55 tonnes each year. The company is also trialling the use of LED lighting [5] in some of their car parks to further reduce their impact on the environment. Additionally, Town Center has started to install electric vehicle [6] charging stations in their car parks.
